A neck lift (platysmaplasty or cervicoplasty) effectively removes this extraneous skin and fat to create a slimmer neck that will produce a sleeker look and more distinctive profile.
The cosmetic surgeons of Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates in Oklahoma City, Dr. Erik Nuveen and Dr. Courtney Caplin, use the neck lift as a rejuvenation treatment to help patients reverse the signs of aging. Neck lift surgery is a great option for those looking to avoid more extensive surgery, while gaining all of the youth-restoring benefits.
A neck lift removes hanging skin and reshapes the neck. During the procedure, an incision is placed under the chin and/or behind or in front of the ears. If fat deposits are present and need to be removed, liposuction will be used during the surgery and performed first.
I am so pleased with my recent face and neck lift performed by Dr. Caplin. The entire staff is kind and compassionate from beginning to end! Thank you all!
The final steps of treatment will be to trim away excess skin, pull the remaining underlying tissue and muscle tight, and suture the incision.
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient surgery at an accredited surgical clinic. The duration of the surgery usually takes around 2 hours, although it may vary depending on the case. Bruising and swelling will be visible after the surgery, but this will subside in the few short days following the procedure. Initially, patients will feel tightness and numbness.
Once the neck adjusts to its new position, patients will notice a more relaxed feeling and a beautiful surgical result. It can take up to 6 months for the final results to appear.
Extremely friendly staff. They made me feel comfortable the entire time. Also made it very easy for me being an out of town patient... I would highly recommend!!
Let me tell you about THIS place. I could not have asked for anything more! They were absolutely on top of everything. Made me feel so comfortable and Dr. Nuveen is so talented. You can feel that he cares about his work and that he wants nothing but for the patient to be happy in the end. He was so detailed and patient with me and answered every single question my husband was asking without acting annoyed or in a rush, I’m only day two on post op and I’m so extremely pleased with my experience, IF I ever plan to get anything else done he will be the only one for the job. I say all of this because whenever I was researching doctors over and over, a seriously insane amount, I found dr Nuveen I just knew he was the one and I’m so happy I went with my gut. ❤️ Loved my experience.
I love Dr. Nuveen he makes me feel so special every time I visit.
A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that aims to correct and improve several areas of the face and neck. The procedure elevates and improves the lower face jowls, and defines the neck. It does not effect the cheeks or upper face. Dr. Nuveen and dr. Caplin commonly use fat transfer to help augment and fill certain areas that the neck lift may not address. The neck lift does not improve the quality or the texture of the skin. For these issues, dr. Nuveen and dr. Caplin may recommend a laser skin resurfacing.
Surgery is the only way to remove loose skin, especially if it is loose enough to hang and droop. Therefore, a neck lift is the only solution when it comes to redefining an individual’s neck to create a strong contour. While there are some very good skin tightening laser treatments on the market today, surgery is still the best option.
There is minimal scarring with this procedure. Since the incision is placed under the chin and near the ears, the scarring is usually hidden. A skilled facial surgeon will take great effort to minimize scarring as much as possible.
This depends on the situation and the amount of loose and sagging skin that is present. Some weight loss patients are young and may require a neck lift at a young age (for example, those between 20-30). For older patients who are combatting loose skin due to aging, the most common age is between 50-70.
During the initial consultation, it may be brought up that in addition to a neck lift, the patient may also benefit from another procedure, such as a facelift or a chin implant. It is common for these additional procedures to be combined to achieve the patient’s desired contours and aesthetic goals.
The average case takes 60 minutes to perform and is an outpatient procedure, meaning you go home right afterwards with a head wrap for overnight.
Of course. The neck lift procedure has very limited access and areas of the neck that it treats. Any issues with sagging of the cheeks or loss of fullness of other areas of the face will require consideration of a smartlift or full facelift. Unfortunately, a neck lift cannot stop the aging process. A neck lift does not change the quality or texture of the skin. A neck lift, can, however, give the patient a more freshened and rested appearance.
It is rare to have complications after a neck lift performed by dr. Nuveen and dr. Caplin. However, this is a surgical procedure and things can occur. Some of the potential complications associated with a neck lift procedure are bleeding, scarring, infection, nerve injury, and poor healing. Dr. Nuveen and dr. Caplin will discuss these with you in consultation.
No. This is entirely a cosmetic procedure. Insurance will not cover neck lift surgery.
It depends on your definition of permanent! Yes, the results will stay with you forever. But, the aging process will not stop after a neck lift. That being said, you will always look younger after your neck lift than if you had never had one before. It is difficult to say how long the neck lift will last, since everyone ages differently. The average re-operation is at 10 years.
You can resume your sexual activities as tolerated.
Some bruising is normal following any surgical procedure. Once again, ice is strongly recommended to reduce bruising. If you have excessive or very dark bruising, you should contact our office or your physician if outside of normal business hours.
Your 24 hour follow up appointment will be booked for you at the time of surgery. All following appointments are made through our nursing staff. We typically like to see patients at 24 hours, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months following surgery.
Pain medication can cause constipation. We suggest purchasing an over the counter stool softener to assist in regularity (colace or dulcolax). Take one with each meal until you are finished taking narcotic pain medications. If this is not productive in 24 hours, take one quarter of a bottle of magnesium citrate.
